Repaving the Route Camino La Pólvora, is one of the most important projects in the history of TCPavements. This Route is about 15 km long (9.3 miles) in two lanes in each direction, has one of the highest and heaviest traffics between all roads in Chile, as it gives direct access to the port of Valparaiso. This project certifies the engineering advance in paving that exists in Chile. Before executing this project, the Camino La Pólvora was composed of an asphalt pavement showing high levels of failure due to stress and time in use, so the best solution for replacing the route was to build an unbounded FRC (Fiber Reinforced Concrete) overlay using the TCP technology to obtain the thinnest possible thickness.
The Route is designed for a lifespan of 20 years, considering a transit of 189.000.000 ESALS and a structure under the pavement conformed by an existing asphalt pavement previously treated. The result concluded in an FRC overlay of 22 cm (8.6 inches) thick made with shorts slabs of 175 cm (68.9 inches) long and wide with widened slabs of 195 cm (76.7 inches).
